I cannot believe I’ve read a book written by no other than Tarryn Fisher and Willow Aster. If I could fangirl more than I already am, I would. Folsom was by far my favorite book of the year so far. It delivers a story well thought out, filled with complex characters and outstanding writing. AND it has a really sexy guy in the cover… I have no complaints whatsoever.

Folsom is an End Man, which means he’s rare as shit because all men either died or disappeared. Alongside twelve other men, they have to repopulate the earth by having tons of sex with every woman. Or at least try. That is until he meets Gwen. When he meets her, he’s struck by the fire in her eyes and by her quirkiness. Soon after their encounter, Gwen finds out she’s pregnant with a baby boy and finds out exactly what it means. For in a world of women, the men lost all rights. Now, it’s up to them both to change society’s view of men whilst trying to save their unborn child.

Women are not stupid. That’s why they outlasted us. While men destroyed each other with hydrogen bombs and wars, Mother Nature took care of the rest, sterilizing what was left of the already dwindling male population.

Starting out with Folsom, he’s a strong, stubborn, protective man that I fell in love with from the start. Folsom is one of the few that actually does not enjoy being an End Man, but there’s nothing he can do about it. When we first meet him he’s a man that yearns for familiarity but doesn’t want to fight for it. I loved that when he met Gwen she opened his eyes to the abuse he was submitted to and made him want to fight for something better. For a family with her. I absolutely loved seeing that change in him! He fought hard for Gwen, for his sons, and for his freedom. Sometimes he won and sometimes he didn’t. But he deserves some respect because he’s a badass man willing to give his own life to protect the ones he loves.

Gwen is the strength of this book without a doubt. She’s the mechanism that started a revolution to defend the men, which are essentially being pimped out. She’s a quirky girl that fell in love with a forbidden man and fought for him until the last second. Gwen has a challenging time in the book, because either someone is trying to take her man from her, or her child, then someone betrays her and tries to kill her. It’s unbelievable what she goes through, but she never loses her strength through those hardships.

The story itself is really well built. It makes you think and see things from another perspective by inviting you to think differently about them. There are some secrets that we didn’t get to know in book one. Hopefully, book two will fix that. There also are some connections that weren’t explored to the max. I felt like Folsom’s son could have been a bigger part of the book and I DID NOT appreciate the ending he got.

Asides from that. I have zero complaints. The book never had a slow moment. It kept me interested through every chapter. The writing is detailed and beautiful without being too much.

I loved it!

P.S - If you’re about to read this book, I’ll share a warning with you. Don’t get attached to any characters because the end chilled me to the bone and crushed my little heart. Some bad people will turn out good, and some good people will turn out bad.

I'm stuck - stuck in this body with two blood-hungry beasts who happen to be relatively clueless to what being human means. Luckily, I still have that part of me, too. I realized a while ago what happened to make me this way and now I'm on a mission to find a cure without killing myself in the process.

I also may have the opportunity to buy a castle in England complete with gargoyles. Am I going to? You bet I am! But while I was there, I gained a follower of sorts - a watcher. I don't know who it is or why, but my monsters inside are helping me to figure it out. The watcher even followed me home - I feel them.

At least I can get back to helping my patients and finding that cure to rid myself of this werepireism. How will I ditch the watcher before they out me for the monster I truly am?

Review:

Trapped by Amanda Byrd is a Paranormal Fantasy book. It tells the story of Miranda, who´s part werewolf, part vampire and human in her quest to find a way to get rid of the monsters inside of her, whilst defeating some bad guys along the way with the help of some awesome allies. What’s not to love about this?

Even before she became a werepire-human, she was a force to be reckoned with. Miranda had a way about her, verbal decimation she called it, because she could shut anyone up at any time.

This is a badass book for sure. The whole concept of this story is pretty cool and original. I’ve never read a book with a story like this or with characters that aside from being totally crazy still manage to win you over. It starts with a prologue that really grabs you in, but the first few chapters after that are a little slow. They do redeem themselves because after chapter six or seven the story starts to add up and I couldn’t put the book down after that.

In the book, you get all the elements of fantasy you could ever wish for such as gargoyles, vampire hunts, werewolves in quests for revenge and a crazy battle at the end. All of this written really beautifully and well explained. And you also get Dark elements, such as explicit killing scenes, hunts and blood drinking. All of this put together was awesome.

Miranda has a dominant personality that comes across as rude all the time, but if I had two monsters inside of me, I’d be rude too. Not only is she tough and crazy AF, but her boyfriend Terry and best-friend Shiloh are too. All of them are characters that were really well written and though out. Always unpredictable and always interesting, whilst managing to complement one another in the story. I loved them, even though they weren’t exactly good guys.

Teddy shook his head and laughed. He was not evil in the same sense Miranda was, though he was just as twisted.

Overall, I’m left pleasantly surprised after reading this book. It’s original, cunning and different. The ending also left an opening for another book where the “cure” might actual exist. So, I’ll be counting the days until it comes out. If you’re looking for a small and good Dark fantasy book, then give this one a try. You won’t regret it.

OH MA WORLD. I cannot even tell you how good this book is. Pestilence was a much-awaited book to me. Mainly because of its synopsis (AMAZING and super intriguing), also because of it’s cover (which is beautiful and thank you to whoever made it) and finally, because of Laura Thalassa. Pestilence ended up being much more than I could ever have asked for. It was a book that took fantasy to a whole other level. A book that showed me all the good and bad mankind has to offer and it took my little heart and broke it into tiny pieces.

Pestilence, his crown perched upon his brow. War, with his steel blade held high. Famine, a scythe and scales at hand. And Death, blighted Death, his dark wings folded at his back, a torch of bilious smoke tight in his grip. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, come to claim the earth and lay waste to the mortals that dwelled within it.

In Pestilence, the world is taken with disease. As people try to get rid of the horseman, Sara is one of the people that attempts to kill him. When her mission fails, the horseman makes her his prisoner, forcing her to see the horror that he bestows in people more clearly. But, as he slowly starts to see some good in her and she starts to see some humanity in the Horseman, their beliefs get blurred and their hearts give in to each other.

“I am not here to please your every whim.” Pestilence’s voice is steady, unfeeling. “I am here to end the world.”

I’ve read quite a few books from this author and the amazing worldbuilding that she incorporates in each story still amazes and takes me by surprise. She creates this original world/stories that grab my attention until the very last word. Then, she describes them beautifully, setting the mood slowly. Every chapter grabbed my attention in Pestilence. The story maintains a super-fast pace, with stuff happening all the time that left me either angry, crying or super happy.

“What do you hope to gain by agreeing with me?” he asks.

“You’re the one everyone calls Pestilence the Conqueror,” I say. “Can’t you even tell when you’ve won an argument?”

Pestilence frowns.

This book is all about mankind. The good and the bad it has to offer and whether it deserves mercy. Throughout the story there are some chapters where humankind is vile, whilst in other we see kindness, love and redemption. Those bad chapters were real hard to read, especially as you start to like the Horseman and Sara. There are moments where people try to shoot them, burn them, kill them and sometimes they succeed with the Horseman (He regenerates) and with Sara (she almost dies). I felt super sad they all these bad things were happening to them, as I really begun to love them.

The relationship between these two main characters starts out rather interesting (she tries to kill him) and gets better and better and deeper with each page. I loved how the author wrote a slow burn romance for them two, where they had to learn how to trust each other slowly and eventually love one another. They start out as enemies but end as soulmates. It's very interesting to read the development of their relationship.

“You want your people to live, but you’re unwilling for me to be harmed. I want your people to die, but I cannot harm you. Each of us is trapped between our minds and our hearts.”

Pestilence is one of the most original, cunning, heart-grabbing book I’ve read. The story is a unique and beautiful take on the apocalypse, that adds in a burning romance that took my breath away. I loved it, Cannot wait for the next one: WAR.

Review:

Where was this book my whole life? Forget Me Not is a rare gem that I absolutely loved. It’s an incredibly complex story that approaches very dark themes, alongside incredibly well-built characters that take hold of your heart and don’t let go. It’s intense and beautiful and I don’t have enough good things to say about it.

"She’s mine to protect. Mine to keep safe."

Willow Winter is the queen of dark romance. She has a way of telling her stories in an original and captivating way that stands out from everyone else. Her books have so much raw emotion, that you can’t help but put yourself in the characters shoes.

Forget Me Not took this to a whole other level. The story is original as hell and super mysterious. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, from chapter one to chapter thirty-one. It absolutely captivated me, as it was incredibly well-crafted to hide a massive secret in the end that blew my mind!

The characters are brilliant. ALL. OF THEM. Robin, Jay and John were dark, mysterious with complex personalities that shined through. The background they share is heartbreaking and left them broken, so this story is their path to redeem themselves and heal. In fact, the whole book is the interaction between these three, whilst they’re trying to remember the past and heal the open wounds they have from it. That whole journey is emotional and sad, but much needed. All I can say is that I cared for them deeply, but I also feared, loved and respected the hell out of them.

“Jay, you need help,” she whimpers.

“Ah,” Jay says. “And so do you, my little bird.”

I don’t need a lot of words to say how much I enjoyed this book, because I simply don’t have them. The book speaks for itself. I encourage everyone to read this If you like meaningful romances with a dark twist, or broken characters that will leave you breathless, you’ll love this. Willow Winters did an amazing job.

Willow Winters is a Boss! Seriously, is there anything she writes that I don’t like? NO! Or that I don’t give at least 4.5 stars? ALSO NO. Therefore, she’s a boss!

A little flirtation here and there is all I was aiming for, but the way he looks at me is doing something to me that I can’t deny.

He’s bad for me. But I can’t help what I want

She asked for it is a Dark Romance standalone that brings us a story full of pain, redemption and love. The story swirls around two characters. Allison and Dean. Both have dark pasts. Allison wants revenge on someone from her past. Dean wants to find his place in this world and learn to tame his anger. When they meet all those goals take a step back as they slowly start to form a bond no one can break.

Dean is like a drug to a recovering addict .

He makes me question everything. All the stupid shit I have planned.

He makes me want to run, but at the same time, he paralyzes me.

She asked for it are truly powerful words as the author says. Willow said that she hoped with this story to give a different meaning to this saying because she hated it. I believe she did just that and it’s an eye opener to a lot of people.

This book is truly fascinating. The connection between these two characters is something you feel from that first time they set eyes on each other. It’s instant and powerful. I liked that in the beginning it was like watching a game of cat and mouse. Dean chased, Allison teased. That simple. They did this for a few chapters increasing the tension between them and making me crazy. I was like: GET IT ON ALREADY! Once they were finally together Allison kept something from Dean, still he loved her. It’s so sweet. Both were extremely well written, and they just felt right for each other. They had crazy chemistry and an indestructible bond. I loved them.

Secrets are all over this story. Allison has a secret. A powerful one. Dean has one too. Even though Dean is much forthcoming than Allison. But bottom line, there is secrets from start to finish. Secrets that will make and break this couple but make them so much stronger in the end. And it added a suspense aura to the book that I totally dig!

She asked for it is a brilliant story told by Willow Winters. A story that will stay with you and hopefully open your eyes to be more understanding and not so quick to judge. It’s meaningful and powerful and written beautifully. I couldn’t want for nothing more.

Review

Before even reading the synopsis, I was enticed by this beautiful cover, I admit. But what I wasn’t expecting was the fantastic adventure inside these pages that completely lured me in. I could not put this book down for the life of me. I really like fantasy books, they’re fun and full of mysteries and danger, but Glimmer of Hope is all that and much more.

For starters I really like everything that involves creatures. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM… And guess what was in this book? Tons of creatures, beautifully written and super dangerous. We have werewolves, spirits, OGRES, psychopaths, demons, Elfs, and a ton more of them. Some are enemies, some are allies, but I grew to like all of them. Why? Because the author introduces these creatures so nicely, and each of them has a different personality that suits their “powers” perfectly, that I was smitten. Heck, I loved the Ogre and the Psychopaths the best and they were supposed to be the bad guys…. the author created characters that were so cold and emotionless and SCARY… so, I must say the reason that this book was amazing in my opinion was because of the bad guys. They were excellent.

This book is not an easy one to read. It makes you think on the nature of humans and their darkest thoughts. It has super violent scenes with very explicit content on killings and fights. There are scenes were people were tortured and played with without any remorse at all. So, if you’re prepared to read all of this, GO FOR IT! I particularly liked the darkest side of this book and I think it complements the story and adds more danger and realness to it, so I’m all for it.

I didn’t really feel like Layla was the only Protagonist in here, of course the story revolves around her but the secondary characters that helped her throughout became important as well. I really liked that the whole story wasn’t centered on one person. You had several points of view, from different characters, good or bad. Never only Layla’s. But Layla was a girl that I really liked. Herself and her powers grew so much in the book, and it’s interesting to see her go from a kickass human to an even better powerful woman. She was dangerous and strong just like any awesome protagonist should be!

Elias was the "main" Bad guy in this story. He’s a redcap. He kills people with his knife, and then the blood is collected by his hat (fedora). Once he does that he puts the hat on and he absorbs their memories. He’s cruel and he likes it. And I absolutely LOVED HIM! Even though he had ton of scenes where he killed without mercy, but it was still kind of awesome to read several chapters from his point of view. From a killer’s point of view! It’s worth reading this book because of him alone!

If there was one thing that I would change it would be the romance. There’s zero romance in here and I totally get why, and the book doesn’t need any of it. But I’m a sucker for romance. And in the end, we kind of got an HINT at it… So, in the next book I want some more romance scenes. Let’s hope!!

Glimmer of Hope is truly a kickass book. It’s filled with action scenes all the time, history, brilliant bad guys and interesting good guys as well. It has a world of fantasy that keeps getting better with each page you turn and is always fast paced and never ever boring! Steve McHugh did a great job.

Lilith is a whore. She has accepted that for a long time now. She's the highest paid prostitute in New Orleans. She’s beautiful and talented and she caught the eye of two men that will do anything to have her. Mob boss Nico Santelli and community center owner Soti Christos have not given up on Lilith. Each has his own very specific, very opposing, plans for her, and neither will rest until it becomes a reality.

I could re-read this book two or three more times and I’d still be in awe. I am completely and utterly amazed at how good this story is. The book itself is set in New Orleans, wonderful city, and the story is really well written. Willow Aster wrote a masterpiece right here.

“I know we don’t know each other well, but … we’ve covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time. It feels like our souls are old friends. My heart recognizes yours.” He leans his forehead on mine.

The story is fast paced, and it has just enough things happening that makes sure we are never bored. It combines romance, betrayals, obsession and passion in one wonderful book.

The characters and how they were written was exceptional. All of them had their strong motivations and different personalities. I liked very single one. Even the Bad guys. Especially the bad guys. And with them I laughed, cried and felt like slapping them as well.

Lili is the leading lady here. Since young she was forced by her mother to work as a prostitute and now she just accepted her life. I really connected with her. Everyone thinks she’s just a girl, but she is such a strong character. She started this book with a broken heart and because of that she doesn’t believe a man could love her for herself, so I really liked that throughout the book and as she fell in love, we could see that changing. She grew so much throughout the story and became tougher and stronger and much surer of herself. I absolutely Loved her.

“I love you,” he whispers again.

“How can you love someone who will never be whole?” I choke out.

Soti Christos was her knight in shinning armor. Usually I am not drawn to characters that are too understanding and passive. But Soti was something else. Without him, Lili would never have made it out of that world. He was super supportive but still ready to kick some ass if anyone dared to mess with his Lili. Their connection as well was out of this world. I wasn’t simply a sexual connection but something much profound. He’s book boyfriend material for sure.

To the bad guys in this book I must say that you were brilliant. All of them. Lili’s mother and Nico were perfect villains. Both made me want to throw them against the wall and slap some sense into them. And they made the story more intense. I could never tell what they were going to do next so i was always on the edge of my seat.

To wrap things up, if you haven’t picked up this book, DO IT NOW. It’s not only amazing with the author’s excellent world building but it’s really romantic and so tragic. I loved every page.

Liliana and Romero.... Finally... The chemistry they share has been brewing for 3 whole books and now we finally get a story for them. Isn't that exciting? YES.

For those of you who have been living under a rock and have not read this awesome series, this is all about the Mob. And each book tells us the story of a different couple. And this time... Is Liliana and Romero.

“I remember the way Romero had looked at me at our Christmas party. as if he saw me for the first time, really saw me as a woman and not just a stupid child.”

Bound by Temptation is such a nice title for the book because Liliana has been tempting Romero ever since she put her eyes on him. He eyed her too, let's be honest but he couldn't do anything because she was under age and from a higher status. In this book that is all thrown out the window because the temptation just becomes too great and they have to cave in to it.

These two break almost every rule possible in here. First off Liliana is not married so she has to maintain her innocent (bullshit) and she can't date. It's impossible specially with a guard. But they ignore it and for most of the book they hide their relationship from everyone, having to sneak around to be together. I honestly thought they would be discovered every single time. I was on the edge for them the whole time.

One of the things I greatly appreciated in the book was that we have two characters that should follow the norm and forget about each other but because they love one another they stay together,. And they will fight whoever says otherwise.

Liliana really had a hard time. With her mother sick and having to put up with her stupid father... And on top of that being engaged to a man three times her age... It's a lot. And she really is affected by it but does not let anyone know. She's really strong.

“He'd seemed safe, like there was no way he could possibly hurt me no matter the provocation.”

Romero is as loyal as you can get but rules are meant to be broken and he will lie to his boss and to almost everyone and risk his head in order to have Liliana. It's so sweet, but truth be told they could get killed for it.

This story is filled with steamy sex scenes that are even more exciting because they are prohibited. And because we are dealing with the mob expect a lot of gunshot fires, getaway cars and a lot of people getting killed. It's the norm in here.

Also we get to see inside the lives of the previous characters and they will still go through their ups and downs and we get to see everything. Yay!

Review:

Okay, so to be honest I was like... It's way to many guys chasing this perfect girl that they all need because she is the only female of their kind and blah blah blah... I was not interested just cause i thought it would be too cliche. It wasn't... In fact it was far from it.

I absolutely cheered for Sigil. Most of this book is her evading all of her "brothers" and trying to resist them.... Well, if you have several hot guys trying to have a relationship with you what will you do? I guess we all would be overwhelmed.... Not that it would happen in real life, None of us are really that lucky. (speaking for myself). Oh well, and on top of that what if they are chasing you around for thousands of years? That's even worse. Give her some space please.

Oh and Sigil sometimes likes to eat people... have i mentioned that? probably not but it's pretty cool.

“Black hair hung in his eyes as he turned her chin to taste her mouth. "At least I didn't try to eat her, lost lamb.”

Asides from that, Sigil is as strong as she can be whilst still needing Sovereign and his brothers to keep her in check. There are some scenes in this book that are dubious in terms of sexual consent, specially when they first meet. So I didn't really appreciated that but understood due to the overall story why it had to be there. So you will see.

The main character is obviously awesome but the secondary characters and the description of the whole world around her was just awesome. I truly felt like I was inside Addison story and I loved every second of it. Everything is just so fast paced whilst maintaining all the details. It's just an amazing world that the author managed to portray so damn well.

I must warn you though that there is a special character for Sigil that we all are going to get super attached to and we totally shouldn't. Just saying...

Even if you are not attracted to these kind of romances, just read it for the atmosphere and the secondary characters. It's awesome and soooo worth it.
