Since
birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a
foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training
to kill him.
With no
choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save
her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth
birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful,
immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.
But Ignifex
is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and
his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.
As Nyx
searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she
finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love
her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running
out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the
man she was never supposed to love.
Book Review:
I love Mythology/Romance themed books but sometimes they get boring as hell!! Well, Cruel Beauty is having none of that because this is a book that will stuck you to the seat and make you read it all! You won't be able to resist this girl with so much hatred inside that will love the one she's supposed to destroy nor the demon that will steal your heart with a snap of his fingers. Oh yeah, it's FREAKING GOOD!
Cruel Beauty has so many tales and awesome greek stories that gave so much mystery and magic to the book and turned it into something so special to read! Rosamund really did know how to set the mood and create this alternate reality where i could lose myself in for hours. Everything is just so Interesting!!! The characters are perfectly written. The story is fast, straight to the point and so diversified! It has demons, amazing clothes, romance, action and so much humor!!! You will not in any way get bored!!
Finally a girl that's not a martyr and doesn't accept that she's the one that has to sacrifice herself to a demon because her father was dumb. Instead we see her revulsion and hatred to the family that's doing this to her!!! And that's the first reason this girl had my attention from the very first page... She's a fighter and she'll do anything to destroy Ignifex's and she'll even try to stab him many times. (I laughed so bad in those parts because he just brushed her off). But Nyx got some courage in her and even though she fell in love with the guy she's supposed to hate she kept the fight and the spark going and didn't just became dull...
If one of us had to die, it ought to be the one with poison in her heart.(...)
I seized the plate and smashed it across his face, then grabbed the knife and tried to stab him left-handed. I nearly succeeded this time, but then he twisted my right hand. Pain seared up my arm and we both tumbled to the floor. Of course he landed on top of me.
“Definitely different.” He didn’t sound out of breath at all, while I was gasping. “You might even deserve to be my wife.” He sat up.
Ignifex's (I swear this guy has so many names) had my heart from the very first page when he appeared. It's impossible not to love him. He's got the cocky attitude and the smirk and nice smile that just make him irresistible even though he gets on our nerves throughout most of the book because he doesn't take anything serious... He's the ruler of demons that has a massive secret around him that he's got no memory of, which adds so much mystery!!!
They said that love was terrifying and tender, wild and sweet, and none of it made any sense.
But now I knew that every mad word was true. For Ignifex was still himself, still mocking and wild and inhuman, terrible as a legion arrayed for war; but in my arms he became gentle, and his kisses were sweeter than wine.
Shade, Astraia and Nyx's father can all go to hell because i really hated them. Shade, i understood why he has to be annoying and deceiving but he still got on my nerves. Astraia is just a spoiled brat that's used to having everything she wants and the Father is a selfish prick. But put them all together in order to destroy Nyx and Ignifex and it's one hell of a plot!
Cruel Beauty is going to leave you giddy and amazed at how a book with such a bad ending can turn out so damn well!! Rosamund just entered my list of amazing authors...
