Goddreads description:
In the court of King Henry VIII, nothing is free--
and love comes at the highest price of all.
When Kitty Tylney's best friend, Catherine Howard, worms her way into King Henry VIII's heart and brings Kitty to court, she's thrust into a world filled with fabulous gowns, sparkling jewels, and elegant parties. No longer stuck in Cat's shadow, Kitty's now caught between two men--the object of her affection and the object of her desire. But court is also full of secrets, lies, and sordid affairs, and as Kitty witnesses Cat's meteoric rise and fall as queen, she must figure out how to keep being a good friend when the price of telling the truth could literally be her head.
There's Kitty and there's Kat. She's the Kitty to her Cat they said. She loyal while the other is manipulative. She's a friend while the other a backstabber. Thought they remained together no matter what. Together until the end they said.
The book passes a friendship based on lies. Catherine and Katherine. Cat is the popular beautiful one while Kitty depends on her to live a decent life, because if one of them is going to make it it's going to be Cat. Kitty is not pretty and she can only relay on her youth and friend if she wants to be remembered. She is smart and perceptive. The point of view is told by Kitty Tylney, she is a really realistic character remembered by her determination, strength and loyalty. Cat is a brat, self centered bitch.
They dreamed with the court and with Cat being married to the King now they finally made it. The story of they're past life's is gonna come on top and it's begin for trouble, there's many loose ties waiting to burst. The life at court is full of lies and dishonesty. Cat thinks she can overcome all of this and boss her way in. well she is not the only smart person inside the scheming group and soon all the moves she made against everyone will come back and bite her in the ass. The problem is she will not be the only one affected. After all, Loyalty is not so forgiving.
The book hooked me from the start. Normally i don't like historical romances but this one is so full of intrigue and deceive it drove me crazy and begging for the next thing to happen. The scenery is so good, the life at court so specific and the characters so amazing you learn to love it.
And yes there is a bit of romance <3
